20 IT Trends for CIOs and Technology Leaders

September 8, 2022

Twenty useful trends for CIOs and technology leaders were revealed in the IT Leaders Pulse Report 2022 by MuleSoft Research, developed from interviews with 1,000 leading IT executives around the world.

The 20 trends include: positive employee experiences, which are now considered very important; improved customer focus and employee technologies, which remain critical for companies to compete; employee well-being is now seen as an investment priority; the skills gap is much worse across a wide range of IT functions; and IT executives are turning to automation and self-serve initiatives to fill the growing skills gap.

Technology decisions today are driven by talent acquisition challenges; improved collaboration processes between IT and business teams are needed; process improvements remain a key priority for IT executives; existing IT processes block productivity and transformation; fusion teams (multi-disciplinary teams that blend workers with tech analytics) bridge the gap and drive success; and new software requires tailored implementation processes.

IT builds on existing investments rather than buying new technology; integration projects take too long and cost too much; low/no-code tools play a key role in accelerating digital transformation and IT strategy; automation continues to drive process efficiency despite a lack of fully automated processes; information security is the most significant business priority for organizations; security compliance degrades the customer experience; the role of senior IT leaders has evolved beyond technological expertise; IT now measured by productivity, cost reduction and experience; and IT is burdened with project backlogs.
