ICANN Reject Ukraine’s Plea To Revoke Russia’s Top Level Domains

ICANN has rejected the plea to revoke Russia’s top-level domains and its SSL certificates.

Both Andrii Nabok, ICANN’s Ukrainian representative, and Mykhailo Fedorov, Ukraine’s vice prime minister and minister of digital transformation tabled the request before the association.

While the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) rejected the request, Göran Marby, ICANN’s CEO and president showed support for Ukraine.

According to Andrew Sullivan, president, and CEO of the Internet Society, granting Ukraine’s request will lead to negative effects.

“The calls to cut Russia off from the Internet are a slippery slope, as the ‘Splinternet’ is the antithesis of how the Internet was designed and meant to function. We must resist these calls, no matter how tempting they may be,” Sullivan disclosed.

ICANN’s decision to reject Ukraine’s request highlight a deliberate effort from the internet’s governors to stay out of the war.
