Nikkei’s Headquarters In Singapore Hit By A Ransomware Attack

Media giant Nikkei has confirmed that its Singapore headquarters was the victim of a ransomware attack on May 14, 2022.

Nikkei and its Asian unit reported the attack to the Japanese and Singaporean data protection authorities.

“Unauthorized access to the server was first detected on May 13, prompting an internal probe. Nikkei Group Asia immediately shut down the affected server and took other measures to minimize the impact. The affected server likely container customer data, and Nikkei is currently in the process of determining the nature and scope of the attack,” Nikkei said in a press release published on Thursday.

The company states that it is currently investigating the incident to check whether the attackers have accessed customer data that were probably stored on the affected servers. At the moment, the investigation of the Ransomware attack found no evidence of a data leak.

“We sincerely apologize for the trouble we’ve caused. We will take appropriate action in cooperation with relevant authorities and strive to enhance information protection,” Nikkei’s public relations office said in a statement.
