According to the White House, President Biden will meet with CEOs and union leaders to address the issues surrounding the semiconductor bill.

The White House announced the meeting in an update to Biden’s public schedule, saying the meeting will take place ahead of a busy week on Capitol Hill, where the Senate is expected to hold a procedural vote on the bill.

The semiconductor bill, known as the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors for America Act, calls for the U.S. government to invest $52 billion in the domestic semiconductor industry.

Participants in the meeting include U.S. Commerce Gina Raimondo and U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin.

Other participants include Medtronic CEO Geoff Martha, Cummins CEO Tom Linebarger, Lockheed Martin CEO Jim Taiclet, the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry of the United States and Canada general president Mark McManus and Communications Workers of America president Christopher Shelton, according to a White House official.

The semiconductor bill is intended to make the United States more competitive against China and also to help solve supply chain problems affecting the U.S.
