GitHub Copilot Chat released in beta

GitHub Copilot Chat, a new AI-powered coding assistant, has been released in beta. The tool allows developers to request personalized assistance, real-time guidance, tips for security fixes, code analysis, and simple troubleshooting.

Copilot Chat is powered by GPT-4, a large language model from OpenAI. The tool can understand natural language prompts and generate code in response. For example, a developer could ask Copilot Chat to “write a function that calculates the factorial of a number” or “fix the security vulnerability in this code.”

GitHub Copilot offers tailored guidance, tips, and solutions for coding challenges. It analyzes code, provides explanations and snippets for complex concepts, helps with troubleshooting and suggests alternative approaches. It also suggests fixes for security issues.

GitHub Copilot is available to Business users as a beta version on github.com, accessible through Visual Studio Code and Visual Studio extensions. Businesses can access the tool by adjusting organizational settings within these IDEs.

Copilot Chat, a context-aware conversational assistant within the IDE, helps developers execute complex tasks with simple prompts. It aids developers of all levels in building applications and debugging code quickly, assisting with coding questions, error fixing, security issues, and code analysis. To use Copilot Chat, users need to accept the terms and conditions.
