Should we revive a Canadian based tech publication?

Share post:

ITWorldCanada is gone. I know that there have been attempts to sell the assets of the company and possibly revive it. But for various reasons, some of which I can’t discuss, there are forces that want to prevent its revival.

But after spending a decade of my life ensuring that there was a Canadian publication sharing our technology stories, I’ve moved on. Today,  I run a small online publication, have a couple of very successful podcasts and we’ve even branched into a YouTube presence.

It’s become apparent that it may be time to “go big or stay home.”

For as much as we can do with this small venture, there are so many stories in Canada we can’t cover.

So I’ve decided to see if there is any interest in helping us revive a Canadian technology publishing voice?

As I noted, since the demise of ITWorldCanada, a small Canadian company has helped me kept publications that were owned independently of ITWorld going. Some great sponsors have stepped up and kept us going. We have a small but powerful audience for technewsday.ca, we have a couple of hugely successful and popular podcasts and we are breaking into YouTube.

We could do a lot more, and there are just so many stories we cannot cover. And despite our successes we have limited resources.

There are limits to growth without some wider support. That could be from correspondents willing to invest in covering tech stories across the country. It could be from organizations willing to offer support or sponsorship, or it could be one or more investors willing to put up some startup capital.

I got a lot of “thoughts and prayers” support when ITWorldCanada disappeared. A smaller group of sponsors came forward with some funds. As I said, one small Canadian company stepped up and took over these new publications. We are greatful for that support.

But as we move into the fall, we are trying to plan for where, if anywhere, we go from here.

This is a “testing of the waters.” Please DM me on LinkedIn or send me an email at my editorial [at] technewsday.ca address.

Love to know what you think.
