Colorado app addresses food waste and feeds “food insecure”

February 21, 2024 In Denver and Boulder, Colorado the Too Good To Go app is changing the way we tackle food waste, offering a win-win solution for consumers and businesses alike.

By connecting users with local eateries to purchase surplus food at a discount, the app not only saves money for both parties but also contributes to environmental sustainability.

Since its introduction, it has collaborated with nearly 100 Denver-area businesses, saving around 24,000 meals from ending up in landfills.

This initiative not only addresses the pressing issue of food waste—where 40% of all U.S. food goes unsold or uneaten—but also combats food insecurity, that affects one in three Coloradans.

The app’s “Surprise Bags,” filled with end-of-day leftovers, are a creative and effective method to ensure food fulfills its purpose of feeding people, rather than contributing to greenhouse gas emissions from decomposition.

As Too Good To Go expands its reach to include major grocery chains, it’s set to make an even more significant impact on reducing food waste and feeding more people within the community.
