Clubhouse Launches ‘Wave’ Features for Private Chats

September 24, 2021

U.S. social audio app Clubhouse unveiled a new feature that allows users to wave to friends in their audio-only chat.

According to the platform, this will show others that they are open to private chat, and as the service noted, the new feature is part of its move to expand beyond public spaces that alone can accommodate thousands of listeners.

Clubhouse users can now “wave” friends online in the app, which opens a private audio chat room when a user accepts the wave. Clubhouse also noted that users can then invite more contacts into the private room or open the chat to the public.

Co-founder and Chief Executive Paul Davison explained that the company wants to allow users to have private chats. “A lot of people know us for bigger conversations, but the reason people stay so long is they’re finding their friends and meeting new people,” he said in an interview with Reuters.
