The U.S. and the U.K. are joining forces to impose sanctions on their common adversaries who engage in malicious and harmful activities in the cyber world.

The common adversaries have not been identified, but the announcement comes after growing concern about the Russia-based ransomware.

The joint action aims to combat “evolving threats with a full range of capabilities,” the two nations said.

The plan was discussed last week at an annual meeting of intelligence chiefs attended by Gen Sir Patrick Sanders and the director of GCHQ’s Government Communications Headquarters, Sir Jeremy Fleming of the UK, and the head of the US Cyber Command, Gen Paul Nakasone. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to jointly combat new and emerging cyber threats and conduct necessary operations as the law deems appropriate.
