Remote Work Security Issues Plague System, IT Administrators

February 3, 2022

A study by Remotely has shown that system and IT administrators find it very difficult to cover all the vulnerabilities of companies in the age of remote work.

600 system and IT administrators from the fields of education, consulting, government, financial services, telecommunications, marketing, sales and retail participated in the survey.

33% of system administrators stated that the most common problem an IT security faces remotely is keeping employees secure every day. Most of the IT professionals surveyed said that the challenges arise from the rapid shift from in-office work to remote work after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two-thirds of respondents said that it remains a challenge to protect users from themselves, particularly workers who use the Windows OS for remote work.

Remotely CEO and founder Tyler Rohrer mentioned a variety of factors in IT security, and those unfamiliar with the area do not usually recognize the number of variables that come into play to ensure user safety every day.

Working from convenient but unsafe locations plays a major role in data security. In addition, an employee’s device also plays a role in how well a user can maintain security while remaining productive.

Another major concern is protecting employees from external threats. Employees who were once secure behind the firewalls of the company’s in-office network now use personal and public networks that are far from secure.

In addition, 28% of respondents said that their priority is to ensure that the tools that remote IT teams have access to are as good or better than those on site.

To address these issues, 27% of respondents said that their workplace was implementing a private cloud strategy to ensure data security, while 26% said that their companies were starting to implement a hybrid cloud setup.
