IT Giant SHI Hit By Malware Attack

July 7, 2022

SHI International, provider of Information Technology (IT) products and services based in New Jersey, announced that a malware attack impacted its network over the weekend.

SHI, reputedly one of North America’s largest IT solutions providers, with $12.3 billion in revenue in 2021 and a staff of 5,000 located in operations centers in the U.S., the U.K., and the Netherlands. The company also claims that it provides services to over 15,000 corporate, enterprise, public sector, and academic customer organizations globally.

“Over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, SHI was the target of a coordinated and professional malware attack. Thanks to the quick reactions of the security and IT teams at SHI, the incident was swiftly identified and measures were enacted to minimize the impact on SHI’s systems and operations,” SHI said in a statement.

While checking its systems’ integrity and investigating the security incident, SHI had to take several of its systems offline, including the company’s public websites and email.

As of Wednesday morning, SHI reverted all email servers shut down after the attack back online. Its IT experts are also actively working on restoring access to other impacted systems on its network.

“While the investigation into the incident is ongoing – and SHI is liaising with federal bodies including the FBI and CISA – there is no evidence to suggest that customer data was exfiltrated during the attack,” the company added.

The company added that it will keep its customers posted throughout the process and assured everyone that no third-party systems in its supply chain were impacted during the malware attack.
