Google Provides Meet on Zoom for Interoperations

October 28, 2022

Google has announced that you can now hold a meeting in zoom rooms while the other party uses Google Meet. This means that Google Meet devices can participate in Zoom meetings and Zoom Rooms can participate in Google Meet meetings by simply clicking on a calendar item or entering a meeting code that you can use for free, making it easy for trusted devices to join cross-platform calls.

The connection between Google Meet and Zoom will initially be supported across all Zoom Rooms, whereas Zoom’s connection on Google Meet is only supported on Meet devices running ChromeOS.

Meanwhile, Google has successfully demonstrated interconnectivity with both Cisco Webex and Google Meet devices and said it will continue to provide Pexip for Google Meet, allowing users to join Meet meetings from other video conferencing apps.

Google Meet devices are also expanding beyond the ChromeOS platform. Poly and Logitech are the first two video conferencing partners to offer Meet for Android-based devices.

According to Google, customers can purchase a Poly or Logitech device that runs Meet, or any other conference application based on admin configuration. Customers who already own Poly or Logitech Android-based devices can capitalize on their investment and migrate to Meet by simply purchasing a Meet license for these devices.

Cisco has also confirmed a linkage with Microsoft Teams that allows the Teams Rooms experience to be delivered on Webex devices, making Cisco a certified Teams Rooms partner. This enables users to set Teams as their default meeting experience. While Webex can communicate with Zoom, Teams and Google Meet, as video conferencing apps, are trying to bridge the gap.
