Mark Zuckerberg’s phone number was leaked after massive data breach

November 7, 2022

According to a security expert, Dave Walker, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s phone number and other details were leaked in 2021

This happened in April 2021, when a large-scale breach of user data affected at least 533 million Facebook accounts. Hackers allegedly leaked Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s personal cell phone number, making it easily accessible to the public. His name, whereabouts, spouse data, date of birth, and Facebook user ID were also leaked.

According to a Bloomberg report, the confidential information was compromised in January 2021, when security breaches built up a massive database of stolen phone numbers linked to Facebook accounts and posted them on hacker forums where they could be easily passed on to anyone with basic computer knowledge.

“Regarding the Facebook leak of the 533M people’ the irony is that Mark Zuckerberg is regrettably included in the leak as well. If journalists are struggling to get a statement from Facebook, maybe just give him a call, from the tel in the leak,” tweeted a data security expert Dave Walker when it happened.

Walker went on to say that among the 533 million users who had personal data posted on the forum were Facebook co-founders Chris Hughes and Dustin Moskovitz.

A Facebook spokeswoman said it was old data that had already been reported in 2019 and corrected in August 2019 but did not comment on reports of Zuckerberg’s information.

However, the CTO of cybercrime intelligence firm Hudson Rock Alon Gal, who discovered the breach, reportedly said the data still provided cybercriminals with valuable customer information. Meanwhile, Facebook played down the significance of the leak, claiming that the data was very old but could be used by bad actors to commit identity theft or fraud.
