Salesforce could lay off more employees

December 9, 2022

Salesforce employees are growing increasingly concerned about what appears to be an impending layoff of staff, despite having laid off hundreds of people this year as the onslaught of tech layoffs continued unabated.

Rumors are circulating within the company that more layoffs could occur as early as this month. “People are afraid it could happen at any time,” said one employee to Insider.

Some employees who spoke with Insider speculated that the activist investor Starboard Value, which disclosed a significant stake in Salesforce in October, just before the layoffs, was to blame for much of the internal pressures. A source close to the situation told Insider that the firm has been pushing for cost-cutting measures since first approaching the company this summer.

Salesforce itself does not appear to be helping matters, as leadership changes and increased pressure to meet sales targets are rocking the company, as are recent mandates for salespeople, such as holding daily in-person meetings throughout the holiday season and returning to work in the office, despite Marc Benioff’s public statements that workers were just as productive at home.
