Over 10 million Twitter users voted in favor of Elon Musk standing aside as Twitter’s CEO. This was the outcome of a Twitter poll conducted by Elon Musk himself.
Musk stated that he would abide by the results of the poll, as he has done with some of his decisions since taking over Twitter but did not specify when he would step down if the results indicated that he should. He stated that there is currently no successor.
According to the poll Musk launched on Sunday evening, approximately 57.5% voted “Yes,” while 42.5% voted “No” to Musk stepping down as CEO of Twitter. Over 17.5 million people cast ballots.
The poll was conducted in response to online backlash caused by Musk’s abrupt changes to Twitter policies in the previous week. On Sunday, for example, the company implemented a new social media platform promotion policy that disallowed users from sharing links to some of their other social media accounts. However, following criticism, Twitter removed the clause from its policy less than 24 hours after the policy’s initial introduction.
Musk tweeted for the first time since his ouster, announcing that future policy-related polls will be restricted to paid Twitter Blue subscribers. He also responded to multiple suggestions that the poll’s results were distorted by fake accounts by saying Interesting.
