Nadella predicts two more years of pain for tech

January 9, 2023

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella has alerted that it will take many more years of difficult situations before the tech industry sees any significant growth. Nadella made this statement in response to recent events in the tech industry, including the turbulent years following COVID-19 and the global recession, which has resulted in layoffs.

According to Nadella, the COVID-19 pandemic has consistently waned supply and demand, which, despite being observed with the aid of an economic downturn in a few countries, has resulted in the “normalization” that is at the foundation of the tech enterprise’s current decline.

“I would say the next two years are probably going to be the most challenging, because after all, we did have, you know, a lot of acceleration during the pandemic, and there is some amount of normalisation of that demand,” Nadella told CNBC-TV18 during an interview, adding, “There is a real recession in large parts of the world. And so, the combination of ‘pull forward and recession’ means we will have to adjust.”

“The combination of pull-forward and recession means we will have to adjust and will cycle through the demand cycle and, in fact, come out of it with what can be another massive growth cycle for the tech industry.”

He also warned against pessimism about the direction of the tech industry, noting that technology jobs do not exist solely in the tech industry. He goes on to say that he expects the tech industry to go through a massive growth cycle after these two years of pain.
