Bank of America resolves Zelle transaction problem

January 19, 2023

Bank of America has begun to reinstate missing Zelle transactions that magically disappeared from customers’ bank accounts, causing some to fall into negative balances.

Customers reported missing funds and unexpected negative balances due to problems with the digital payment network on outage tracker DownDetector.com.

“Zelle transactions made between January 14th and January 17th may be delayed in occurring and posting to accounts as requested,” the Charlotte-based bank said in a notice, displayed when customers log into their online bank accounts. It added that “Transfers will be completed and will appear in your account activity and balances as soon as possible.

Bank of America said the issue had been resolved as of 3 p.m. ET. Customers have reported that Bank of America has begun to restore some of the lost transactions.

However, the restoration of Zelle transactions is progressing slowly, with users reporting that some missing transactions have been restored but not all of them.
