OpenAI launches ChatGPT Plus for $20 monthly

February 2, 2023

OpenAI has announced the release of a paid version of its popular chatbot, ChatGPT, which will cost users $20 per month.

ChatGPT Plus, the new subscription plan, will cost $20 per month and will provide subscribers with a variety of benefits. The advantages include general ChatGPT access even during peak hours, faster response times, and priority access to new features and improvements.

“ChatGPT Plus is available to the customers in the United States, and we will begin the process of inviting people from our waitlist over the coming weeks,” said the company in a statement.

The trial will be expanded in the future, but for the time being, it will only be available to those on a waiting list. While the free version is still available.

One of the possible reasons for the introduction of ChatGPT Plus is that the increasing popularity of ChatGPT resulted in a high operating cost for OpenAI. Furthermore, it consumes massive amounts of computing power, with experts estimating that it costs OpenAI $100,000 or more per day to run.

In a recent tweet, OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman, confirmed that the company is spending a lot of money to keep the service running. And Hannah Wong-Silva, an OpenAI spokeswoman, said the new subscription service is intended to recoup some of the costs while the company continues to offer a free version of the chatbot.
