Israel unveils Cyber Dome

October 23, 2023

Israel has unveiled a “Cyber Dome,” a 1,800-acre cyber security complex located in Beer Sheva, Negev’s capital and Israel’s cybersecurity hub, as part of efforts to create cyber battlegrounds.

This initiative is inspired by Israel’s famed Iron Dome air defense system, but it brings a new dimension to cyber warfare. Gaby Portnoy, Director General of the Israel National Cyber Directorate (INCD), describes it as the “secret sauce” and credits generative AI platforms as the X factor behind its success.

The Cyber Dome will serve as a formidable weapon in the ongoing struggle between Gaza and Israel, as the world witnesses the evolution of warfare concepts. Every three years, a fresh generation of cyber defenders emerges from Israel’s military, taking their positions there.

Within the Cyber Dome, half of the personnel are tech-savvy youth monitoring real-time data on multiple screens, while the other half operates in the digital spaces, leveraging AI and machine learning to gather, read, and interpret data. With nearly 14,000 tech experts stationed at the Beer-Sheva complex, intelligence services employ platforms akin to ChatGPT to sift through vast volumes of information and identify critical threats.
