Android Developers to Add Privacy Information Similar to iOS

Google will introduce more stringent privacy information requirements for developers who publish apps in its Play Store under similar Apple policies.

The company will soon require developers to specify what data is collected and stored, such as location, contacts, name, email address, type of files stored, how data is used, what security practices the app uses, and whether the app follows Google’s family policy.

App manufacturers will also have to specify whether an app needs the data to work and whether users have the choice to share it, as well as whether they can request for the data to be deleted after uninstalling an app.

App developers must also declare whether the privacy information provided is verified by an independent third party.

Developers who do not comply could be subject to policy enforcement.

This new policy is due to enter into force in the next quarter and developers will be able to disclose the data protection information in the last quarter of 2021, while users will be able to view the information in the first quarter of 2022 before the strict requirement is fully implemented in the second quarter of 2022.
