Satya Nadella, CEO Of Microsoft Named As Chairman

June 18, 2021

Microsoft has appointed its CEO Satya Nadella as the technology company’s new chairman, replacing John Thompson.

Nadella took over as Microsoft CEO in 2014 and has been instrumental in expanding the business, which includes major acquisitions such as LinkedIn, Nuance Communications and ZeniMax.

Thompson, Nadella’s predecessor, will now serve as an independent director.

The change at the top comes just over a year after Gates stepped down from the board and said he would focus more on philanthropic work at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, one of the world’s largest charities.

Last month, Microsoft admitted it conducted an investigation into Gates’ involvement with an employee two decades ago after it was revealed he had tried to have a romantic relationship with the employee in 2019.

The company declined to comment on whether it let Gates go.
