In his interview with the BBC, Google CEO Sundar Pichai warned of the threats to internet freedom in different parts of the world.
He explained that many countries restrict the flow of information and many people take this for granted.
He did not name any countries but noted that none of Google’s main products or services are available in China.
He also addressed tax controversies.
Pichai said Google had paid an effective tax of 20% over the past decade.
He also told the BBC that Google no longer pays huge sums to accountants and lawyers to legally reduce tax obligations, which the company has done in the past.
While speaking on AI, Pichai stated that he believes that two things will shape and revolutionize the world: artificial intelligence and quantum computing technology.
Discussing AI, Pichai noted, “I view it as the most profound technology that humanity will ever develop and work on. You know, if you think about fire or electricity or the internet, it’s like that. But I think even more profound.”
