Blizzard Employees Protest Blatant Sexism And Discrimination

July 29, 2021

Hundreds of Blizzard employees walked out to protest the company’s handling of sexual harassment and discrimination allegations.

The protest followed the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing’s (DFEH) decision to sue Activision Blizzard on July 20 over its culture that consistently discriminates against, harasses and underpays female employees. The company was described as having a “frat boy” culture.

The striking workers called on the gaming studio to comply with its four demands, which include ending compulsory arbitration in all employment contracts.

In addition to the forced arbitration of employment contracts, employees also demanded that the company revise its hiring and promotion procedures, publish salary and promotion data, and lastly hire an outside company to audit the management team.

One protester told The Verge that they will not stop fighting until those demands are met.
