Amazon CEO Andy Jassy recently announced that the retail giant plans to hire 55,000 people globally for corporate and technology roles in the coming months.

In his first press interview since taking over from Jeff Bezos, Jassy said the tech giant needed more firepower to keep up with demand.

The company’s latest goal of launching satellites into orbit to improve broadband access is called Project Kuiper and could require a lot of hiring.

With Amazon’s annual jobs fair set to begin on September 15, Jassy says now is a good time to hire new blood.

The new positions are primarily in engineering, research science and robotics roles, postings that are essentially new to the company and not vacancies created by former employees.
