Amazon on Friday announced that workers who tested positive for COVID-19 will be allowed to isolate for only a week rather than 10 days.
In a message sent to staff, Amazon wrote: “Do not come to work if you are sick. Additional leave options are available for individuals who remain symptomatic beyond one week.”
Amazon said that the new instruction comes into effect immediately. Workers who tested positive will also get paid leave of up to 40 hours. The paid leave corresponds to the shorter isolation period.
The decision from Amazon was announced following updated U.S. health guidance.
On Tuesday, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) supported recent guidance that those who have the virus can end their isolation within five days.
Walmart also announced that workers who are isolating or tested positive for COVID-19 will receive one week of paid leave.
