Amazon to use generative AI to revamp Alexa

July 27, 2023

Amazon is hoping to revitalize its Alexa voice assistant with the help of generative AI. The company sees this technology as a way to make Alexa more conversational and less transactional, and to open up new possibilities for how people interact with their devices.

Amazon has been working on generative AI for several years, and the company has made significant progress in recent months. The first visible signs of Amazon’s generative AI efforts are expected to appear at the company’s September 20 event. However, it will take some time for these features to be fully integrated into Alexa and it is facing some challenges in integrating generative AI into Alexa. But the company is confident that it can overcome these challenges and that Generative AI has the potential to make Alexa more conversational, informative, and engaging.

Amazon’s senior VP of devices and services, Dave Limp, expressed excitement about generative AI and its potential, especially in homes. He adds that Amazon aim to provide generative AI to customers on a large scale but also emphasize the need for high standards in developing new features and experiences.

In the meantime, Amazon is working to address some of the challenges of using generative AI in a consumer product. For example, generative AI can be computationally expensive, so Amazon needs to make sure that Alexa can respond to queries quickly enough. The company is also working to ensure that generative AI is used in a safe and secure way.
