Amazon Workers In New York Cast Ballot In Union Election

March 28, 2022

Amazon workers at the JFK8 Staten Island warehouse in New York commenced voting on Friday on the need to form a union.

The move to form a union is championed by a group of workers known as the Amazon Labor Union (ALU). in-person voting at JFK8 will continue until March 30. Voted will be counted on March 31.

For some workers, voting in favor of the union will guarantee several benefits to workers. This includes higher wages, longer breaks, and more paid time off.

However, some workers are skeptical about having a union. This set of workers is concerned about ALU’s ability to advocate on their behalf.

Other workers have simply rejected the call for a union. It is believed that this distrust of unions is fanned by Amazon.

Amazon is monitoring the event and is more concerned about its employees expressing themselves.

“We look forward to having our employees’ voices heard. Our focus remains on working directly with our team to continue making Amazon a great place to work,” said Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel.
