In a bid to catch up with rival Nvidia in the AI chip market, AMD has acquired AI software startup Nod.ai. The deal is part of AMD’s broader strategy to invest in software that will enable customers to more easily deploy AI models on its chips.
Nod.ai’s technology is used by large data center operators to deploy AI models that are tuned for AMD’s chips. The company’s software helps to optimize AI models for performance and efficiency, and it also provides a variety of tools for managing and deploying AI models.
AMD has not disclosed the terms of the deal, but Nod.ai has raised roughly $36.5 million in funding, according to PitchBook data.
The acquisition of Nod.ai is AMD’s second in the past few months. In August, AMD acquired Pensando Systems, a startup that develops data processing chips. The Pensando acquisition was seen as a way for AMD to expand its portfolio of data center chips.
