An analysis of IT jobs for 2023

February 22, 2023

In the coming years, there is expected to be a significant shift in the types of IT jobs available. This is because the IT job market is expected to expand in the coming years, with a focus on cybersecurity, data analysis, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Employment in computer and information technology occupations is expected to grow by 11% from 2019 to 2029, much faster than the average for all occupations, according to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). According to the BLS, the median annual wage for computer and information technology occupations in May 2020 was $91,250, which was significantly higher than the median wage for all occupations.

Developers are needed in financial services to create applications for e-commerce websites, budgeting programs, bookkeeping, online banking, tax management, and financial forecasting. There is a need in healthcare for applications and systems for electronic health records, medical practice management, online appointment scheduling, online medical billing, specialty practitioner scheduling and patient management, telehealth, patient engagement, remote patient monitoring, electronic prescriptions, clinical trial management, and hospital management services, among other things.

However, there have been warnings that not all IT jobs will be equally in demand, and that some job categories may see oversaturation and decreased demand in the coming years. As a result, those interested in a career in IT should consider pursuing a specialized niche, such as cybersecurity or artificial intelligence, to increase their job prospects.

As technology becomes more integrated into all aspects of business and society, soft skills such as communication and teamwork are becoming increasingly important for IT professionals. Furthermore, IT professionals must be prepared to constantly learn and update their skills in order to keep up with changing technologies and job requirements.
