A few weeks after the original iPhone Wi-Fi bug was found and finally fixed by security researcher Carl Schou, another more serious bug, which triggers when the device enters a series of malicious public Wi-Fi hotspots with the network name “%p%s%s%s%s%n,” was rediscovered by the same researcher.

While the previously fixed and the new bugs are related, as both exploit a string format encoding error somewhere in the iOS network stack, users are advised to simply avoid connecting to Wi-Fi networks that have percent icons in their name while waiting for the software update that will fix the problem from Apple.
