AT&T launches AI tool to improve internal operations

June 21, 2023

AT&T has introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool called Ask AT&T, which will assist staff with activities ranging from coding to customer assistance to language translation. ChatGPT powers the product, which is intended to be secure and safe for employees and company data.

Users can utilize Ask AT&T to look for information in HR records, translate customer and employee paperwork, and streamline complicated procedures. It may also be used to develop computer programs, detect fraudulent users, and enhance a company’s network. It also operates in an AT&T-specific Azure tenancy that has been pressure tested for leakage. AT&T personnel may enter business data and information into Ask AT&T without fear of it spilling into the public realm.

Andy Markus, AT&T’s chief data officer, expressed special enthusiasm for the use of generative AI for generating computer code. He claims that the tool has increased production by 25-50% on average. Markus did, however, agree that Ask AT&T is not a replacement for real staff. He stated that a person is still required to ensure that the code is performing as intended.

AT&T says it is investigating potential applications such as using AI to help optimize networks, upgrading legacy software code and environments, making care representatives more effective at supporting customers, providing employees with quick and simple answers to certain HR questions, and reducing employee meeting time through automated summaries and action items.
