Avast Takes Over Plugin “I don’t care about cookies”

September 16, 2022

Avast, a Czech multinational cybersecurity software company that researches and develops computer security software, machine learning and artificial intelligence, has bought the plugin “I don’t care about cookies,” a browser extension that disables cookie alerts on almost all websites.

According to founder Daniel Kladnik, the acquisition is a step towards better products. He has promised to continue working on the project and explains that the extension, which blocks or hides cookie-related pop-ups, can still be used for free.

He continues that no more donations are needed and appreciate all donors, translators and everyone else who has contributed to keeping the project alive over the last ten years.

The plugin, which is available on browsers such as Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Edge, Opera, Pale Moon and others, automatically accepts the cookie policies for you (depending on what is easier to do, it will accept all or only necessary cookie categories), but it does not delete cookies.

The extension deals with cookie notifications, which most websites now automatically display. Instead of having to click one or more buttons to send your cookie preferences to a website, the extension would automatically process these prompts.

Further information on the acquisition is not available.
