Bed Bath & Beyond boss resigns

November 3, 2022

Rafeh Masood, chief customer officer and technology officer of Bed Bath & Beyond, has resigned, highlighting the latest change of leadership at the beleaguered retailer in the wake of a potential data breach and exodus of staff.

Bed Bath & Beyond announced last week that a third-party phishing scam had gained unlawful access to its data by accessing one of its employees’ hard drive and certain shared drives. It is still investigating whether the drives contained sensitive or personal information.

According to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Tuesday, November 1, Masood’s resignation will take effect on December 2.

“Mr. Masood’s resignation was not the result of any disagreement with the company on any matter relating to the company’s operations, policies or practices or financial statements,” the filing stated.

Masood will join Bed Bath & Beyond in May 2020, having previously served as senior vice president and chief digital officer at BJ’s Wholesale Club and previously held strategic positions at Dick’s Sporting Goods and Sears Holdings.

He was among a group of new executives hired in the spring of 2020, including former EPP / CFO Gustavo Arnal, who took his own life in September; former chief merchant Joe Hartsig, who resigned after Tritton’s dismissal in June; and former COO John Hartman, who left the company in August.
