Bitdefender Identifies 35 Malicious Apps on Google Play Store

August 19, 2022

If you have downloaded any of these Android apps, delete them since they could be used to spread malware and run unauthorized ads.

According to Bitdefender, some of the apps include the GPS Locations Maps app, Personality Charging Show app, Image Warp Camera app, Animated Sticker Master, GPS Location Finder app and some others.

These apps and many more, are part of a new malware campaign on the Google Play Store where apps mislead victims into installing them, only to change their name and aggressively run ads.

In total Bitdefender identified 35 malicious applications on the Play Store with over two million downloads taking into account publicly available data.

Just like many legitimate apps, these malicious apps run ads however, they display ads through their framework allowing them to serve other types of malware to their victims.

After getting users to install them, these malicious applications change their name and icons and even take additional steps to hide their presence on the device.

While users can delete them, developers make it difficult to find them on the affected devices.
