Boeing Dabble’s In The Metaverse With New Airplane Ambition

December 20, 2021

Boeing is joining other technology companies in their race towards the metaverse.

For its ambition towards the metaverse, Boeing will showcase immersive 3-D designs coupled with robots that communicate.

Boeing will also connect mechanics around the world through Microsoft Corp’s $3,500 HoloLens headsets. Simply put, Boeing’s strategy is to offer three offerings, including unified design, production, and airline services operations.

All of this is offered in a single digital ecosystem.

The planemaker is starting next year by fighting to reassert its engineering dominance after the 737 MAX crisis, while laying the foundation for a future aircraft program over the next decade.

Boeing’s chief engineer Greg Hyslop explained that the strategy is all about “about strengthening engineering.” He explained further, “We are talking about changing the way we work across the entire company. You will get speed, you will get improved quality, better communication, and better responsiveness when issues occur. When the quality from the supply base is better, when the airplane build goes together more smoothly, when you minimize re-work, the financial performance will follow from that.”
