Business Leaders’ Lack Of Software Knowledge Could Be Costly

Businesses lose up to $126 million annually due to the inability of business leaders to grasp the essential aspects of developer productivity, a recent survey by CircleCI reveals.

According to the report, 40% of business leaders use incorrect parameters such as lines of code and story points to measure their teams performance, as neither method can accurately prove the ROI of engineering results.

The survey also found that only a third of the companies surveyed are run by executives with an IT background, which leads to a lack of insight into software operations.

Because business leaders are still far behind when it comes to accessing the productivity or performance of their software teams, and they face numerous challenges.

This includes, among other things, simply answering questions about the number of developers needed for hire.
