Car companies selling your data and costing you money.

August 21, 2024 A recent investigation revealed that major car manufacturers, including GM, Honda, and Kia, are not only tracking drivers’ data but also selling it to third-party brokers without the knowledge or consent of their customers.

This data includes detailed information such as driving habits, locations, and even braking patterns. One alarming case involved a driver whose insurance rates suddenly spiked by 21% after GM sold his driving data. The third-party broker compiled a 130-page report on his driving behavior, which the insurance company used to justify the increase, leaving the driver with no recourse and raising serious privacy concerns.

The widespread sale of such personal data by automakers puts consumers at risk of identity theft, targeted scams, and other consequences, sparking calls for greater transparency and protection of consumer rights.
