Google Chrome will no longer show whether a website that users visit is secure, but only show users when they visit an insecure website.

This development comes after Google’s Transparency Report revealed that over 90% of all browser connections in Google Chrome currently use an HTTPS connection, which ensures that the browsing experience is secure.

Since most website communication is secured, Google’s new feature removes the lock icon for secure websites and ensures that it only displays security indicators when the site is not secure.

For companies that want to continue to have HTTPS security indicators, Google has added a corporate policy for Chrome 93 called “LockIconInAddressBarEnabled” that can be used to reactivate the lock icon in the address bar.
