CompTIA predicts growth of U.S. IT industry

According to a new CompTIA report, the U.S. IT industry’s workforce will continue to grow, with a significant need for data scientists, cybersecurity professionals, UI/UX designers, and software engineers.

The report predicts a 3% increase in the size of the IT industry’s workforce through 2023, which is the same as the pace recorded in the previous year. Adding that tech professionals make an estimated income of $100,615, which is more than double the national average.

The report emphasizes that certain occupations, such as data scientists and analysts, cybersecurity analysts and engineers, web designers and UI/UX experts, software developers and engineers, software QA and testers, CIOs and IT directors, systems analysts and engineers, and IT support specialists, are expected to see significant growth in 2023.

Furthermore, 61% of technology professionals are involved in developing and delivering solutions, while the remaining 39% are involved in the business side of technology delivery, such as sales, marketing, finance, HR, operations, and management. New York City had the most tech employment increases between 2021 and 2022, followed by Dallas and Seattle.

According to the research, the majority of technology professionals (58%) work for end-user organizations, while the remaining 42% work for technology corporations. Meanwhile, employment growth in the technology industry has been unequal, with IT services and bespoke software services accounting for 52% of job increases since 2017, while software products accounted for 29% of job gains over the same time period.
