PC maker Dell Technologies has halted shipments of some versions of its powerful gaming systems to California and five other states because the products do not meet new energy efficiency standards.
The other affected states are Colorado, Hawaii, Oregon, Vermont and Washington.
The rules affect “select configurations” of its Alienware Aurora R10 and R12 gaming PCs, Dell said Tuesday.
Gaming PCs from Dell and others use powerful chips to create state-of-the-art graphics in video games. These components typically consume significantly more power than the usual PC.
The affected models had graphics processors from Advanced Micro Devices Inc and Nvidia Corp, as well as central processors from AMD and Intel Corp
The gaming desktop Alienware Aurora Ryzen Edition R10, which is among the affected products, costs $1,819.99, according to Dell’s website.
California’s limited computer efficiency rules took effect July 1, and the state has said the new standards will help reduce the greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change and also lower electricity bills for Californians.
