On Wednesday, Ukrainian authorities, in collaboration with South Korean and U.S. investigators, arrested six suspects believed to be linked to the notorious ransomware group CIOp in Kyiv.

Although this is undoubtedly a milestone, because the Ransomware attacks are increasing daily, the fact that the Russian government does not really help to fish out the cybercriminals, shows why ending the larger Ransomware threat remains a distant dream.

With well-known ransomware gangs from Russia some of them include, Ryuk, DarkSide, REvil, and others, Russia’s blind eye to the plight remains a major problem.

This is because while the capture of cybercriminals involves international companies, Russia has no extradition treaty with the United States and President Putin refused to prosecute them because they do not violate Russian rules.
