Digital workers struggling to find information, says Gartner

May 12, 2023

According to a new Gartner survey, digital employees experience difficulties in acquiring the information they need to do their jobs efficiently.

The survey, which included 4,861 full-time employees, discovered that 47% of digital workers have difficulty finding the information or data they want. The poll found that the average number of apps used by desk employees, often known as “knowledge workers,” has climbed to 11, up from six in 2019. Furthermore, 40% of digital employees use more than the average number of applications, with 5% utilizing 26 or more.

According to survey respondents, better business outcomes may be obtained if IT supplied generally acknowledged and supported apps and devices. According to the survey, 96% of digital workers would be willing to accept monitoring if it provided assistance in the form of awareness of training classes and career development opportunities, assistance in finding job-related information, and proactive outreach from IT support when experiencing computer or application problems.

The survey also revealed that digital employees prefer internal IT assistance in resolving technology-related challenges. The top three techniques discovered were live phone talks, chat chats, and email interactions. Workers rated the knowledge of the individual managing their difficulties and the quickness with which their problems were resolved as the key factors for their choice.
