November 25, 2022

Elon Musk announced a general amnesty for suspended Twitter accounts beginning next week, following a poll decision from Twitter users to bring back those who had not broken Twitter law or engaged in egregious spam.

In a poll of over 3 million votes, those in favor were 72.4%, while those opposed were 27.6% after the question; “Should Twitter offer a general amnesty to suspended accounts, provided that they have not broken the law or engaged in egregious spam,” was asked.

Musk said in a Tweet that an amnesty for blocked users would begin next week after a majority of votes in a poll on his account backed the move. Musk made the announcement just days after reactivating Trump’s account. Though Musk did not provide specifics on how the amnesty process would work, there have been widespread concerns that in a move that has brought a warning that spreaders of hate and fake news will return to the social media platform.
