Ex Google employee calls out Google, says it sees staff as disposable

January 24, 2023

Justin Moore, an engineering manager at Google who was one of the 12,000 people laid off last week, has stated that Google views its employees as ‘100% disposable.’ Moore, speaking from personal experience, stated that large corporations regard their employees as completely disposable.

“So after over 16.5 years at Google, I appear to have been let go via an automated account deactivation at 3 am this morning as one of the lucky 12,000,” Justin Moore, a Software Engineer Manager at Google based in Washington DC, wrote on his LinkedIn profile.

He claimed he had not received any additional “information” or “communication” about his dismissal. Even if he did receive communication, he cannot access it due to deactivation.

“I don’t have any other information, as I haven’t received any of the other communications the boilerplate “you’ve been let go,” website (which I now also can’t access) said I should receive,” he continued.

“This also just drives home that work is not your life, and employers — especially big, faceless ones like Google — see you as 100% disposable,” Moore wrote in the post.

However, the company will offer laid-off employees a severance package beginning at 16 weeks’ salary. Bonuses, unused vacation time, six months of health insurance, and job placement services will also be included in the payout. Moore appears dissatisfied with the manner in which he was fired after what he described as “a mostly wonderful moment” with Google.
