ExpressVPN Employees Express Concern About Ex-Spy’s Top Role

September 24, 2021

ExpressVPN employees expressed concern about the company’s decision to offer a top role to Dan Gericke, one of the company’s employees who admitted working on behalf of the United Arab Emirates’ foreign intelligence agency to hack American machines.

Employees also expressed concnern about the company’s lax attitude to the trust it has lost since the leak of the spy affair.

Many employees appear concerned that the company knew of Gericke’s history as a mercenary hacker for the UAE yet continue to employ him. Workers made their complaints heard during the company’s regular online question time, when questions about Gericke and the company dominated the session.

An anonymous employee asked, “This episode has eroded consumer’s trust in our brand, regardless of the facts. How do we intend to rebuild our reputation?” In a bid to clarify issues, the company noted, “It’s only through clear commitment and contributions to our mission that Daniel has been able to earn senior leadership roles within the company and the full confidence of our co-founders.”
