Facebook Announces Voice Products To Compete With Clubhouse

April 19, 2021

Facebook is launching a range of products on Monday under the “social audio” category, including its own version of the audio chat app Clubhouse and a push into the discovery and dissemination of podcasts.

The plan is for an audio version of Rooms, a video conferencing product that the social media giant launched a year ago and with which people can listen and interact on a virtual “stage.”

Facebook will also introduce a feature that will allow users to record short voice messages and post them to their news feeds, as well as a podcast product that will be connected to Spotify.

The announcement is scheduled for this Monday, but some products will not be available immediately.

Facebook began public testing of a new app called Hotline in April, where creators can speak and take live questions from the audience.
