Facebook’s ‘Neighborhoods’ Faces Competition With Platforms

Facebook’s “Neighborhoods” feature, designed as a special place for connecting users with their local communities, will face a host of challenges, some of which involve stiff competition from other already established platforms such as Nextdoor, Amazon Ring’s Neighbors and the crime-tracking app Citizen.

Issues such as misinformation, racial profiling and privacy issues are also worrying.

Nextdoor, a well-known hyper-local social networking service, notes that it covers one-third of U.S. households and operates in 276,000 neighborhoods worldwide.

This will be one of Facebook’s biggest challenges in the hyper-local market as they will have to overcome its competitor’s lead while working to prevent Facebook groups “excesses of false claims and violent incitement,” to make sure it doesn’t “manipulate itself into the “Neighborhoods” feature.”
