FWA Connection To Jump To 82 Million In 2022

December 2, 2021

Deloitte recently predicted a huge advance in the use of fixed wireless access (FWA) in 2022, with the number of FWA connections set to reach 82 million.

Currently, 4G dominates FWA connections, with 5G accounting for only 4% of these connections in 2021.

However, the Deloitte graph which highlights the gradual evolution of FWA connections between 2021 and 2026, shows a gradual downward trend in the use of 4G connections and an increase in 5G types of FWA connections.

Deloitte predicted that the share of 5G-FWA connections will rise from 4% in 2021 to 39% in 2026.

While many believe that FWA’s growth is mainly due to 5G, Deloitte pointed out that the government’s interest in bringing the 5G network to rural areas could be one of the main reasons why it is being adopted more than ever.

“5G’s deeper network infrastructure and greater spectral efficiency significantly improve the economics and technical feasibility of FWA deployments and can thus support new deployment and revenue opportunities,” Deloitte stressed.
