Gartner Advise CIOs To Find Uses For Quantum Reality

October 22, 2021

Analyst Chirag Dekate has called on CIOs and technology leaders around the world to find uses for quantum reality. Dekate has stated that the technology is only about 10 years away from becoming mainstream.

While exchanging advice on how to launch quantum initiatives and capture enterprise value now, Dekate identified three best practices based on the work of companies currently exploring the technology, including prioritizing business potential in the selection of use cases, focusing on internal competence development and collaboration with vendors, and finally setting up a quantum working group immediately.

To get started with quantum initiatives, Dekate advised companies to find interested parties for the technology and to get the group to meet regularly.

He recommended keeping the group small, ensuring that the team is interdisciplinary and includes different business experts, focusing on use case identification and using these use cases to identify the best vendors. Another important issue is the selection of a high-impact use case that has the potential to have disruptive effects.

Finally, companies interested in quantum computers need to prioritize learning and development over finding the right use case, as this requires new skills.
