Glance To Launch “Screen Zero” Lockscreen Ads On Smartphones

July 7, 2022

Ad-tech company Glance is pivoting to launch its lockscreen platform on Android smartphones in the U.S. within the next two months according to TechCrunch.

The startup is engaging with wireless carriers in the U.S. for partnerships as it plans to launch on several smartphone models next month.

The ad-tech company, valued at around US$2 billion, is available on 400 million smartphones in the Asian market.

Glance serves content from the media and current affairs as well as casual games on the lockscreen of Android phones. The startup personalizes the content feed on the lockscreen based on the interests, promoting users to engage intensively with content.

According to the source familiar with the matter, the company is building a “premium offering” for the U.S. where individuals are more inclined to pay for digital services.

Google and Jio Platforms are prominent investors in Glance. Glance is also a core offering in Pragati OS, the custom Android operating system developed by Google and Jio Platforms for affordable smartphones.

Glance is taking ad technology to another level with new initiatives that many fear could lead to the spread of crapware. The company is testing live commerce on its platform and also working with television vendors to bring Glance to their customer TV operating systems.
